Hermann Jackson Warner photograph collection, ca. 1845-1905.

Photographs collected by writer Hermann Jackson Warner. Most of the images are photographs taken and collected during his travels in Europe and Asia, among other places, with his wife, Mary Poyntell Stayley Warner, from 1869-1905. These photographs include formal and snapshot photographs of the Warners in Europe and Japan, as well as commercial views of various places that they visited and photos of European artwork. There are also a number of portrait photographs of various members of the Warner, Williams, and Staley family. Most of the photographs in this collection are identified and inscribed in the hand of Hermann Jackson Warner. Photographers include Warner family friend Harriet von Roth; Kimbei Kusakabe of Japan; and James Wallace Black and John Adams Whipple of Boston, Mass., among many other European and Asian photographers. Includes cartes de visite, cabinet cards, tintypes, and Kodak snapshots.
